We are pleased to announce Professor Adam Walker as the keynote speaker - Day of Hope and Remembrance, 27 June 2026, Sydney.
Professor Walker leads the Neurodegeneration Pathobiology Laboratory at the Charles Perkins Centre and is the Chair of Pharmacological Sciences in the Sydney Pharmacy School, at the University of Sydney. He is also a FightMND Bill Guest Research Fellow and leads the TDP-43 Research Cluster in the Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation.
Professor Walker has researched the molecular mechanisms of MND for over 20 years, undertaking PhD at the University of Melbourne, postdoctoral research in the Centre for Neurodegenerative Disease Research at the University of Pennsylvania (USA), and leading a research group at the Queensland Brain Institute. He moved to Sydney in late 2024. His laboratory focuses on understanding the causes of disease with a focus on the role of the protein TDP-43 in MND, to identify new therapeutic options in pre-clinical drug and gene therapy studies. The ultimate goal of this work is future clinical translation to benefit people living with MND.
Professor Walker’s research employs lab-based approaches including biochemistry and advanced microscopy studies with cell biology and tissue culture of human cells and stem-cell derived neurons, genetically engineered mice, and human pathology analysis.
