Ways to Support People Living with MND

Motor neurone disease (MND) can change life in an instant, for the person diagnosed, and for everyone who loves them. Across New South Wales, the ACT and the Northern Territory, MND NSW is here to make sure no one faces it alone, providing information, support and education for people living with MND, their families, friends and carers.

Almost everything we do is made possible by the generosity of our community. However you’d like to help, with your time, your talents, a donation, or simply by spreading the word, there’s a place for you. Here are the many ways you can support people living with MND.

Make a donation

A donation is one of the most direct ways to make a difference. Every gift helps us deliver essential support services, advocate for better care, and invest in the research working towards a world free of MND. Whether large or small, your gift goes straight to helping families who need it. You can make a donation online in just a few minutes, and because MND NSW is a registered Deductible Gift Recipient, donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.

Give monthly through Circle of Care

Regular giving is one of the most powerful ways to help. By joining Circle of Care and giving monthly, you help us plan ahead and provide consistent, reliable support for families living with MND, so help is there whenever it’s needed. Even a small monthly gift adds up to a lasting impact over the year.

Start your own fundraiser

Some of the most inspiring support comes from people doing things their own way. Whether you run, ride, bake, shave, swim or take on a personal challenge, community fundraising is a fun and meaningful way to raise both funds and awareness. Not sure where to start? You could:

  • Host a Drink Tea for MND morning tea with friends, family or workmates, tea for two, or twenty-two.
  • Take on the Ice Bucket Challenge and rally your community to get involved.
  • Set up your own online fundraising page through MND Blue and share it far and wide.
  • Dream up your own event or challenge, visit our Fundraise page and we’ll help you make it happen.

Every dollar raised supports MND care, support and research.

Get active with Walk to Defeat MND

Walk to Defeat MND brings the community together to show people impacted by MND that they are not alone. The walks are designed for all ages and abilities, with stroller- and wheelchair-friendly courses you can complete at your own pace. Join a walk near you, or create your own My Community Walk anytime, anywhere, around your local park, or even your loungeroom.

Leave a gift in your Will or give in memory

A gift in your Will is a lasting way to help future families facing MND and to support the search for a cure. After providing for your loved ones, even a small percentage of your estate can make a profound difference. You can also give in memory of someone special, honouring their life while supporting others living with MND.

Volunteer your time

Our volunteers are vital. From helping at events to lending a hand with awareness-raising and administration, volunteers reduce our costs and help us make a bigger impact for people living with MND. If you have time and skills to share, we’d love to hear from you.

Support through your workplace or business

Businesses of all sizes play an important role in the MND community. From workplace giving and staff fundraising to corporate partnerships and sponsorship, there are many ways your organisation can get behind the cause. See how our corporate supporters are making a difference, or get in touch to explore a partnership.

Shop for a cause

When you buy from the MND NSW shop, all profits go directly to helping us provide services that improve quality of life for people living with MND, and to research into the causes and effects of the disease. It’s a simple way to give that gives back.

Raise awareness

Awareness is support, too, the more people understand MND, the stronger our community becomes. You can help by taking part in Cornflower Blue Day, Global MND Day and our Day of Hope and Remembrance, or by sharing the MND March of Faces, a photographic display that puts real faces to motor neurone disease. Following and sharing MND NSW on social media makes a difference as well.

Become a member

Becoming a member of MND NSW is a meaningful way to show your ongoing support for our purpose and the people we’re here for. Membership helps strengthen our collective voice and our community.

Where your support goes

Every contribution, big or small, helps MND NSW:

  • Provide support and services, including the MND Info Line (1800 777 175) and coordination for people living with MND and their carers.
  • Deliver fast access to equipment and assistive technology through FlexEquip.
  • Offer education and information for families and health professionals through MND Upskill and the MND Hub.
  • Advocate for better care and invest in MND research.

Together, these make everyday life better for people living with MND, and bring us closer to a cure.

Every gift is tax-deductible

MND NSW is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (CFN 11154). Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible in Australia, and you’ll receive a receipt for your records.
