The Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute researchers Dr Justin Yerbury and Dr Kara Perrow, in collaboration with Dr Darren Saunders from the University of New South Wales, have won the American Department of Defense (DoD) Therapeutic Idea Award of US$500,000 for a two-year project.
They are looking at a new treatment strategy for MND that will hopefully restore the Ubiquitin Proteasome System - the cell's main 'garbage disposal machinery' - which is compromised by MND.
